How Quinncia Protects Your Privacy

You may have questions or concerns about how Quinncia uses Artificial Intelligence (AI). We welcome the chance to address your concerns by being transparent about our practices and our commitment to data privacy.

Quinncia is committed to using AI ethically and responsibly. Quinncia complies with FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, a U.S. law protecting student educational records) and GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation, a law governing data privacy and protection). We never sell your personal data, and we share it only with vendors when it is essential to run the platform, under strict contractual limits.

Our terms and conditions, privacy policy, and FERPA policy are available on our website. Because those documents can be long, this article gives a high-level summary.

Why does Quinncia use AI?

Quinncia is an educational career readiness tool. It helps you prepare for today's job market, where employers are increasingly using AI to screen applicants. We want to level the playing field by giving you the same tools to practice with. With Quinncia, you can improve your resume, LinkedIn profile, and interviewing skills so you can navigate the hiring process and secure great opportunities after graduation.

How does Quinncia use AI ethically?

We believe in using AI ethically, so we built Quinncia to guide you rather than do the work for you:

  • Resume: Quinncia won't generate bullet points for you. It gives you direction on how to improve them.
  • Interviews: Quinncia gives you guidance to improve your interviewing skills. It won't craft your whole response for you.

We take this approach across the entire Quinncia platform. It's critical that students learn to work alongside AI, not use it to do their work for them. Our goal is to use AI only to improve your experience while upholding the highest standards of privacy, transparency, and data security.

Is Quinncia FERPA compliant?

Yes. Quinncia protects the privacy and security of your data, including your educational records, under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), 20 U.S.C. § 1232g, and its regulations. Under FERPA, Quinncia acts as a school official with a legitimate educational interest in accessing and using your student records. These records may include your name, your school, and the performance data our services generate. This access is strictly governed by Quinncia's contract with your school.

Quinncia commits to:

  • Handle all student data, including PII (Personally Identifiable Information, which is any data that can directly identify you) and the performance metrics our services generate, in full compliance with FERPA.
  • Use your PII only for the limited purposes your school authorizes, as needed to provide the Quinncia service.

How is my data used?

The data you provide to Quinncia, and the data Quinncia generates (including from the AI resume, interview practice, and LinkedIn review tools), is collected and used solely to:

  • Provide the AI-driven services you request (resume analysis, interview feedback, and LinkedIn profile assessment) directly to you.
  • Provide aggregated, de-identified, and anonymized reporting to your school, as required by our service agreement.
  • Improve, troubleshoot, and enhance the Quinncia service for you and your school.

Does Quinncia sell or share my data?

No. Quinncia has a contract with your university that explicitly prohibits us from using your data for any purpose other than providing Quinncia's service to students at your school. We will not use or share your data, or your school's data, with any other individual or institution.

We do not sell, lease, rent, trade, or share your PII or service-generated data with any third party for marketing, advertising, or public use. The only exception is what is essential to provide the Quinncia platform to you and your school.

For example, Quinncia relies on vendors for cloud hosting, database management, and some AI processing. To ensure your information remains safe, data shared with these vendors follows a strict multi-step process:

  • Data Minimization: Only the minimal data operationally necessary to process your request is selected.
  • PII Stripping & Masking: Before any content leaves Quinncia's secure environment, personal identifiers (such as names, emails, and student IDs) are completely removed or masked using automated privacy tools.
  • Secure Transmission: The de-identified content is securely transmitted to the vendor strictly for processing.

Contractual Safeguards: Vendors are legally bound to FERPA-level security standards and are explicitly forbidden from storing, sharing, or using your data to train their own AI models.

Is my data used to train AI?

We enforce strict boundaries on how data is handled regarding AI model training:

  • External & Third-Party AI Models: Your data is never used to train external, public, or vendor AI models, nor is it ever shared to train models for other institutions.

School-Specific Platform Improvements: Quinncia may use anonymized, de-identified data solely to refine and improve the specific platform version serving your school—only after all personal identifiers have been permanently removed so the data can never be traced back to you.

How is my data kept secure?

Quinncia uses industry-standard security measures, including encryption, access controls, and regular audits. These protect your data from unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, and destruction. Before any data is used by AI, Quinncia uses tools such as Google Cloud Sensitive Data Protection and data masking to remove personal information.

How long your data is kept is managed according to our contract with your school and your school's policies. If your school's partnership with Quinncia ends, all of its data, including any AI model data, is deleted.
