Decrease in Score

As you keep making edits and changes to your resume, you may notice your score decreasing after you click Reanalyze and Submit, or simply re-upload your resume after making changes.

Your score may decrease based on the following reasons:

1) If you have made edits according to Quinn's recommendations, there is now more content for Quinn to analyze based on ATS standards:

  • Overuse of formatting characters: adding special characters, emojis, or unusual punctuation can hinder parsing
  • New spelling or grammar errors: any spelling or grammatical mistake results in losing points (Quinn awards full points only for zero errors), so an introduced typo can reduce your score
  • Formatting regressions that break ATS parsing: changing fonts, using two-column layouts, adding graphics, inconsistent date formats, or altered margins can make sections unreadable and trigger flags.

Just keep working on resolving the flags that are present!

2) After formatting, less of your content was identified by ATS; for example:

  • Replacing quantified bullet points with general task descriptions removes Key Detail points tied to quantified results and strong action verbs
  • Keyword/target mismatch: editing wording (rephrasing, abbreviating, or removing exact product/tool names) can cause the resume to lose matches to the employer/ATS language the system expects, reducing points for skills and competencies

3) After formatting, your content was unable to be read by ATS, and since less information was read, there was less content to score

  • Lost or reformatted content fields: removing or reformatting degree, major, GPA, coursework, dates, or education headings (or moving them into an unusual format) can prevent the scanner from detecting them
